How does Aristo D3 Capsule work?

Aristo D3 Capsule contains Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3). Cholecalciferol is a steroid hormone produced in the skin when exposed to ultraviolet light or obtained from food sources. It is a provitamin that is converted into a vitamin after intake.  It helps maintain blood calcium and phosphorus levels and mineralization of bone. Aristo D3 Capsule is also used in the treatment of familial hypophosphatemia (a group of rare inherited disorders characterized by impaired kidney conservation of phosphate and in some cases, altered vitamin D metabolism).

Missed & Over dosage of Aristo D3 Capsule

Missed Dose

Give the missed dose of Aristo D3 Capsule as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose of Aristo D3 Capsule.

Pharmacology

A fat-soluble sterol essential for calcium and phosphate homeostasis and bone mineralization. It aids in calcium absorption from the gastrointestinal tract and stimulates bone formation.

Dosage & Administration of Aristo D3 Capsule

Adult Dosage

• Nutritional Deficiency: 5-10 mcg or 1-2 ml (200-400 IU) per day.
• Osteoporosis Prophylaxis and Treatment: For individuals over 50 years: 800-1000 IU (20-25 mcg) orally once daily, often in conjunction with calcium supplements.

Child Dosage

• Nutritional Supplementation:
  • 0-12 months: 400 IU (10 mcg) orally once daily.
  • 1-18 years: 600 IU (15 mcg) orally once daily.
• Vitamin D-Resistant Rickets: 12,000-500,000 IU (0.3-12.5 mg) orally once daily.
• Familial Hypophosphatemia: 40,000-80,000 IU (1-2 mg) orally once daily, typically with phosphate supplements; dosage may be reduced after the growth stage is complete.

Interaction

• Increased Hypercalcemia Risk: When combined with thiazide diuretics, calcium, or phosphate.
• Increased Vitamin D Requirements: Antiepileptics like carbamazepine, phenobarbitone, phenytoin, and primidone.
• Reduced Efficacy of Vitamin D: Rifampicin, isoniazid.
• Counteraction of Vitamin D Effects: Corticosteroids.
• Reduced Absorption: When taken with cholestyramine, colestipol, mineral oil, or orlistat.
• Other Interactions: Digoxin, cardiac glycosides, and ketoconazole.

Contraindications

• Hypercalcemia-Related Diseases: Contraindicated in conditions associated with hypercalcemia.
• Known Hypersensitivity: Should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to Colecalciferol or its excipients.
• Vitamin D Toxicity: Contraindicated if there is evidence of vitamin D toxicity.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Doses up to 4,000 IU are considered safe during pregnancy. The recommended daily intake for pregnant women is 400 IU, though higher doses may be needed for those deficient in Vitamin D3. Pregnant women should follow medical advice specific to their condition.

Vitamin D3 and its metabolites are excreted in breast milk, but no overdosing effects in infants have been observed. When prescribing additional Vitamin D3 to a breastfed child, the mother's dose should be considered.

Precautions & Warnings

• Conditions Requiring Caution:
  • High calcium or phosphorus levels.
  • Heart problems.
  • Kidney disease.
• Supplementation: Vitamin D should be taken with adequate calcium and magnesium. If calcium levels are low, the parathyroid gland may produce PTH, increasing vitamin D hormone production and mobilizing calcium from bones.
• Lactation: Colecalciferol is distributed into breast milk; use with caution.
